Greening Your Lifestyle!

Living a “green” lifestyle is a simpler, healthier, and more eco-friendly way to live! It takes patience and sacrifice to adapt a green lifestyle because you have to change the way you do things! And, change takes time!!!

I have done a lot of reading and research in my quest for a green lifestyle; and although I have made great strides in my efforts, I still have several changes I want to incorporate into my everyday living!

Here are a few things you can do to make your life simpler, healthier and more eco-friendly:
  1. Cancel newspaper and magazine subscriptions that you don’t have time to read.
  2. Cut down on the amount of disposable products you use such as coffee filters and bottled water. Using a washable coffee filter and a filtered water pitcher reduces waste and is better for the planet! For water on the go, fill a recycled water bottle with water from your filtered pitcher.
  3. Load your dishwasher to capacity; you won’t have to run it as much. And, run the dishwasher (and washing machine) in the evenings or at night! It reduces the amount of energy you use.
  4. Dry two loads of clothes at once rather than a single load! Energy savings!
  5. Don’t wash linens as often! Bath towels, wash cloths, sheets, etc. don’t have to be changed every day!
  6. Keep your air/heat on a consistent temperature! Keep blinds/shutters closed in the summer to keep heat and sunlight out; open in the winter to let the sunlight in!
  7. Use table lamps rather than overhead lighting! Less energy used, and the bulbs are easier to change!
  8. Keep toxins and chemicals out of your home and out of your body! Eat more veggies, fruits and whole grains, and less processed foods!
  9. Take control of your health—read and research as much as you can about a “health” issue, i.e. allergies, sinus, etc.
  10. Recycle, recycle, and recycle!
  11. Make use of the “stuff” in your home, or get rid of it!
I practice what I preach! See how I slowly transitioned to a greener lifestyle:

Retro Styling and Contented Feelings!

By Jo Ann Dossett, REALTOR

Remember Leave it to Beaver, Ozzie and Harriett or Father Knows Best? Well, we baby boomers do! These television shows portrayed the life of the typical American family in the 1950’s and have become an icon of that decade. Everyone knew their neighbors and everyone grew up in the same type of house with the same floor plan! The “ranch-style” as it was called back then is synonymous with the 1950’s. Today, it’s considered “retro” and is making a comeback with first-time homebuyers as well as those homeowners wanting to downsize!

2051 Meadowbrook Road is a classic example of a 1950’s ranch-style house! Situated on a beautiful wooded corner lot, it has three bedrooms, two baths and a living/dining combo that is anchored by a faux fireplace and built-in bookshelves. There is also a cozy den with warm wood-panelled walls. The eat-in kitchen has been updated with ceramic floors, counter tops, backsplash and stainless appliances. The master suite’s private bath has updated plumbing and lighting fixtures. The backyard is fully fenced and is huge. A prime location, affordable price and wonderful floor plan make this 1950’s “ranch” a winner!

Window Shopping is a Time-Honored Tradition

It may not seem like it right now, but spring is just around the corner! And, for those of you who are entertaining the idea of selling your property, it’s time to start thinking about what you need to do to get it ready for the market. Historically, spring and summer months are when real estate sales increase. So, don’t be left out in the cold—get your property in tip-top shape before the market “heats up”!

I like to use the analogy of window shopping when I talk with a Seller about preparing their property for the market. Some of New York City’s most famous and popular retail merchants spend a fortune on elaborate window displays during the Christmas season to draw shoppers into their department stores. Now, I’m not suggesting that you have to go to that extreme or expense to get a buyer into your property, but the concept is the same. You want to capture a buyer’s attention and make a great first impression. And, once a buyer is inside your front door, you want that great first impression to continue throughout their tour!

Check out these great tips for getting your property market and show ready!

Good luck, and remember with Jo Ann Dossett as your Realtor, every path leads home!

Featured Listing: 1189 Dulaney Road

Jo Ann Dossett
“Toto, we’re not in Kansas, anymore”. . . . You’ll feel the same as did Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz when you feast your eyes on this prime acreage at 1189 Dulaney Road in the heart of Terry! Unexpected, exceptional and refreshing!!!

I’ve had the privilege of selling this property twice since 2003! And in that period of time, I’ve seen this property come a long way!! It has been improved inside and out, and also grown from 2.8 acres to 15 acres! It’s the perfect place for the horse lover with two barns, a riding arena and split-rail cross fencing. The large barn (38’x60’) sits on the back 9.8 acres and will accommodate a nice-sized horse trailer!

And, this brings me to the feature that I think is the most unique about this property. The smaller of the two barns is an Amish-made stable with four stalls, running water, electricity and its own weather vane. It’s charming but also very functional! And, best of all, it’s in close proximity to the house which makes it easy to tend to your horses after a long day!

Take a trip from the ordinary and visit this extraordinary property! You’ll be glad you did!

With Jo Ann Dossett as your REALTOR®, every path leads home.
